A Few New Pictures

It is no longer fair to eat dinner without feeding Sophia. Boy does she love to eat. I start off with milk though so she's not quite so hungry or else somebody might get a black eye. ;-)

Here she is at Dick and Kathy's for dinner. We had lasagna, she had applesauce. Kathy pulled out one of the bibs she made for Ben when he was a baby. I think I'm going to need a few of these full coverage type bibs for our house.

Rice Cereal, Apples and Carrots, Oh My!

Sophia doesn't think too much of rice cereal. She loves applesauce and carrots so far though!


We went to Al's Nursery with the Jenny, Ellie and Annie this week. Ellie gave Sophia some really good hugs.

Ahh, Sleep!

It's amazing what a few good nights of sleep can do. Ben's had some time off, so he's been helping me get up and resettle Sophia at night. We straighten her blanket and offer her the binky and then go back to bed. Sometimes that's all she wants. Other times she fusses for a few minutes (less than 5) and goes back to sleep. Last night she slept through the night until 7:30 this morning! I think I sort of created my own problem because I was jumping up to feed her every time she woke so she wouldn't wake up Ben. After a while on that schedule she started eating like a little bird all day so she'd have room for the nightime feasts I was providing. I know this all sounds so simple, but it's hard to figure out even the most elementary things when you aren't getting enough sleep. Anyhow, I think we're back on track. I'm feeling much better and so is Sophia. She's been using all her new found energy to perfect her jumping skills.

Sophia Thompson: The Midnight Tanker

The suspect: 1-1/2 ft tall with thinning brown hair, big blue eyes and insatiable thirst for midnight milk.

The crime: Refueling after hours. Every three hours all night long to be exact.

Anyone who has any information regarding the curtailing of this bad habit should contact Amanda immediately. The suspect is hungry and very, very uncooperative.

This little lady likes to tank up all night long and then dilly-dally through all her day time feedings. After a very unsuccessful morning feeding I resorted to applesauce.

Waking up every few hours demanding food is hard work. She's likely to drift off to sleep at any point during the day.

I don't think she's missing out on any meals. What do you think?

Baby Announcements

Well, you should all finally have a birth announcement for Sophia. It only took me 5 months to get them out to ya'll. I don't know what it is about mailing things to people, but it gets me every time.

I need to give credit where credit is due. Our good friend Tim took the picture. Tim is a great photographer and has a way of capturing special moment in his lens. He took this shot at the hospital only a few hours after Sophia was born. Thanks Tim.

Now that I have the birth announcements all printed up and mailed out I should dust off our wedding proofs and see about getting them in an album. :-)

Mother's Day

Today is Mother's Day and I received sweet cards, voicemails and text messages from all of my favorite people. Thanks guys. It's exciting to celebrate Mother's Day as a new mom, although I don't feel worthy of the title yet. In the years to come I aspire to fill the very big shoes that moms wear. I plan to do this by putting jelly beans in the bottom of Sophia's ice cream cones and making her face sandwiches with peanut butter skin, cheese hair and raisin smiles. My childhood was filled with a million of these little reminders that my mom loves me and it means so much. Thanks mom. There aren't diamonds sparkly enough for you.

Our Life in Pictures

Hi Everyone! Sorry to be such a slacker about my blogging lately. We've been busy with the most random things...

I've learned that babies reach a point (sooner than I thought) where naps become VERY undesirable in their little minds. Lately she's really been fighting it, but some days she'll sleep for 2-1/2 hours once she falls asleep. Other days it will only be 45 minutes. Today I laid her down on our bed and tried the binky on her. She never really took to that before, but today it worked like a charm. She took a 2 hour nap for me!



Our house has become quite a hodge-podge of baby gear. Johnny Jump-Up here, activity mat there. Recently a friend sent us home with her Baby Einstein, so I packed up the activity mat and one of her baby chairs to make room for the new addition. The bottom is rounded like a saucer sled so she can practice her balance and as you can see there's a nice selection of toys she can spin around and play with.

Daddy took these pictures of her after she got up from her nap. She was as happy as a clam all afternoon while we toured Al's Garden Center looking for trees and flowers for our yard. Yay for spring!

Last week Sophia had her 4 month well baby check-up. You'd be proud of me. I couldn't get an appointment late enough in the day for Ben to be able to make it, so I had to be the go-to parent while she got her shots. That wasn't my favorite, but the rest of the appointment was great. She is now 15.1 lbs and 25-1/2 inches, which puts her in the 75th percentile for both her weight and height. The doctor said we could start introducing some solids. This was a timely suggestion because the little squirt watches quite closely as food goes from my plate to my mouth. Then I say, "Ummm. That was good." and she smiles.

Grandma and Grandpa Burdy bought her this high-chair when they visited for Easter. I put it together last night.

A little tummy-time

So, you know how I told you we are working on our front yard. Here's a couple "before" shots. Hopefully in a month or so I'll have a few "after" shots to post. We've been talking about the need to create a little curb appeal since we moved in, but we've been busy until now working on the inside. This summer we're focusing our energy on the outside.

If you look closely you can see a curvy line in the grass. That's Ben with a sod-cutter (more equipment rental fun). We're putting in a curvy flower bed and the light post will be removed and a clump of birch trees will be going in.

Can't you sort of imagine Ben tilling up the land with a team of stubborn donkeys or something. I had to smile when I thought of him trying to keep them in line wearing overalls rolled up to his shins, chewing on a piece of grass with a sweat stain that resembles one of Sopher's shirt soaking drools.

After he cut in the new flower beds he tilled up a strip along our new gravel parking area and transferred the sod so we'll have a strip of grass between the gravel and sidewalk.

So, that's what we've been doing lately. Nothing overly exciting, but the stuff our days are made up of I guess.

Recently I've been looking for a good fiction to read. Does anyone have any recommendations?
